The focus of the course was to engage non-educators in authentic discussions about American schooling. Our goal for the project was to develop a means to facilitate thought and reflection on what. There was an overemphasis on Shakespeare. The previous year had to study 'Ethan Frome', one of the dullest, depressing books I've ever attempted. This a very thoughtful book that outlines steps for creating a democratic learning community and offers examples of democratic learning communities in action. Reading "American Schools" made me reflect on my own leadership experiences and think about the importance of balance between freedom and structure.5/5(7).
